A McDonald's branch located on Newmarket Road in Cambridge has applied to extend its daily opening hours from 7am–11pm to 6am–11pm, adding one extra hour in the morning. This application follows two previous refusals.
The request was submitted by Savills on behalf of McDonald's. Currently, the restaurant operates seven days a week, opening at 7am and closing at 11pm. The proposed change would allow it to open an hour earlier each day.
In their cover letter, Savills stated that the extension “is not considered to result in any unacceptable impact” on local residents, highlighting that nearby businesses have varying hours, including Papa John's, which is open until 3am daily.
“This application simply seeks to extend the trading hours by an additional hour from that which is currently approved. We therefore anticipate that the proposal is entirely acceptable in terms of the extra hour of operation in the early morning trading period as no complaints have been received.”
Savills also noted that the majority of customers visit during early morning hours and emphasized the economic benefits of opening earlier.
Residents around the area have seen offers, promotions, and advertisements from McDonald's and its partners, which remain accessible to the community.
