Typhoon Fung-wong exited the northwestern Philippines after unleashing heavy floods and landslides that left widespread damage across multiple provinces.
According to officials, the storm caused the deaths of at least four people and forced more than 1.4 million residents from their homes. Entire provinces experienced power outages as strong winds and heavy rain battered communities.
Fung-wong made landfall late Sunday in Aurora province as a super typhoon with sustained winds reaching 185 kph (115 mph) and gusts up to 230 kph (143 mph). The massive 1,800-kilometer-wide storm weakened as it swept across northern mountain regions and agricultural plains before exiting into the South China Sea from La Union province. Forecasters predicted it would continue northwest toward Taiwan.
The disaster struck as the country was still recovering from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which earlier killed at least 224 people in the central Philippines before moving on to Vietnam, where five more deaths were reported.

Meteorologists said the storm weakened significantly after crossing northern provinces but warned of possible residual rainfall and rising river levels in affected zones.
