Ariarne Titmus has spoken about the surprising response following her announcement to retire from competitive swimming. The four-time Olympic gold medallist shared insights in a recent Stellar podcast interview titled Something To Talk About.
Despite knowing her decision would shock many, Titmus was taken aback by the scale and speed of the response. She said to podcast host Sarrah Le Marquand:
“I knew it would be a shock to a lot of people. It was quite out of the blue. But I certainly wasn’t expecting the reception I received.”

Interestingly, Titmus noted that no one has asked why she chose to retire while still excelling:
“I am at the top of my game, I’m still only 25, and I was concerned that the wider public wouldn’t understand my reasoning. But I haven’t had one person asking me why.”
