Ariarne Titmus has shared the one question nobody has asked her since her surprising announcement to end her competitive swimming career. The Olympic gold medallist spoke about the unexpected public reaction to her retirement.
In an interview on the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, the four-time Olympic gold medallist revealed she was shocked by the reception following her decision.
“I knew it would be a shock to a lot of people. It was quite out of the blue,” Titmus told podcast host Sarrah Le Marquand. “But I certainly wasn’t expecting the reception I received.”
She noted that within just half an hour of posting her announcement at 8am Brisbane time, a flood of articles and social media clips appeared.
Titmus explained that despite still being only 25 and at the top of her game, she has not been asked why she chose to retire.
“I was concerned that the wider public wouldn’t understand my reasoning. But I haven’t had one person asking me why.”
She expressed satisfaction with her swimming achievements and readiness to pursue new ventures.
Titmus revealed a key turning point came when she was in the commentary box during the World Championships in July, which influenced her decision.
