Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association are teaming up to present a webinar on best practices for responsible media coverage involving crime victims.
The discussion will be moderated by Nela Kalpic, State Director for Marsy’s Law Wisconsin.
The webinar will highlight guidance from the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) reporter’s guide, which outlines best practices when interacting with victims. It covers how to protect survivors from unwanted attention and how to responsibly share their stories for mutual benefit.
Additionally, the session will explore how these ethical media practices align with Wisconsin’s constitutional amendment for crime victims’ rights, known as Marsy’s Law, which guarantees rights including privacy, notice, and active participation in the justice process.
