Governor Chadchart Launches ‘Bangkok Solar City’ Initiative
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced the launch of the “Bangkok Solar City” project on Saturday, November 8, 2025, aiming to transform the capital into a low-carbon city powered by renewable energy.
Harnessing Bangkok’s Solar Potential
Chadchart emphasized the city's abundant sunlight as a free, renewable resource that can significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions. As a key hub for transport, commerce, communications, and tourism, Bangkok faces increasing energy demand and related environmental challenges.
Goals and Strategic Alignment
The initiative promotes the installation of solar rooftops to generate clean energy and decrease reliance on fossil fuels. It supports the BMA Net Zero policy and the Bangkok Master Plan 2021–2030, both targeting carbon neutrality and sustainable energy use.
Support for Public Engagement
To encourage participation, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has developed a detailed guidebook and an online platform to make adopting solar energy easier for residents.
“Installing solar panels may seem complicated at first, but this guide will be an essential starting point,” said Chadchart.
