A lawsuit was filed against Monroe independent Mayor Friday Ellis by the three Democrats on the City Council and local publisher Roosevelt Wright. The suit also names Republicans Gov. Liz Murrill and new Monroe fire chief Timothy Williams.
The lawsuit involves the selection of Williams by Landry for his post, which was allowed by a new state law. Mayor Ellis had previously nominated Williams for the position, but the City Council, led by the Democrats, twice rejected the nomination for conflicting reasons.
No comment from the parties involved was available at the time of reporting.
