Volunteer Stress Forces Event Cancellations
Volunteer shortages have led to the cancellation of key events in Tongala, putting the town's identity at risk.
The Tongala Development Committee has cancelled the Christmas Hay Bale Trail and the town-wide garage sale for 2025 due to a lack of volunteers.
According to Jason Kelley, the committee president, "We've asked for volunteers so many times, but not one person put their hand up,"
The five-member committee, which used to be supported by a larger group of volunteers, has been shouldering the responsibility for organising four major events each year, leading to increased stress.
The cancellations have sparked fears that volunteer shortages are threatening the survival of local festivals across the region.
