Brain Collapse: Rare Diagnosis for Ballarat Mum and Daughter
A Ballarat mother and daughter are facing a rare diagnosis, with the mother, Chloe Smith, experiencing a myriad of symptoms over the past four years.
Life's very hard, but with this new diagnosis, it's even harder.
Chloe's symptoms started with a sudden migraine that lasted six months, followed by vision issues, hearing loss, chronic pain, hypermobility, sleep apnea, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and cognitive decline.
Recently, a neurosurgeon diagnosed Chloe with Chiari malformation, a rare condition where part of the brain (the cerebellum) collapses into the brain stem in the neck, causing fluid and pressure to build in the brain.
