A suspicious package discovered at the Joint Base Andrews military installation near Washington led to an evacuation and several people being hospitalized after reporting health issues. Officials confirmed the incident in base statements.
“As a precaution, the building and the connecting building were evacuated, and a perimeter was established around the area.”
Base authorities stated that the evacuation began after someone opened a suspicious envelope. First responders were immediately dispatched, and the site was later handed over to the Office of Special Investigations. An initial assessment found no direct threats, though the investigation remains ongoing.

According to two sources close to the case, the envelope contained an unknown white powder. The substance was sent to the Malcolm Grove Medical Center for analysis, and the affected individuals received medical care there. A HAZMAT team’s preliminary test did not reveal the presence of hazardous materials, and the team departed the base Thursday evening.
The severity of the symptoms among those exposed remains under review. The room where the envelope was opened, inside the Air National Guard Readiness Center, will stay closed until further notice.
