NV Energy has come under scrutiny for allegedly overcharging customers by an estimated $65.5 million over the last 23 years. This revelation emerged from documents submitted to the Nevada Public Utilities Commission, which examined the company’s billing practices dating back to 2001, according to KTNV.
The situation, which was initially focused on overcharges spanning eight years, has now expanded to cover a much longer timeframe. The investigation exposed various ways in which customers were incorrectly billed due to a misclassification issue affecting their homes.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada is currently reviewing options for reimbursing the affected customers. Many customers, like Southern Nevada homeowner Gariety Pruitt, have only received partial refunds so far, despite years of overpayment.
"They owe everyone that they overcharged with interest," said Pruitt to News3LV, reflecting the frustration felt by many customers.
NV Energy’s long-standing billing errors have led to millions in overcharges, and customers await a fair reimbursement as regulators deliberate solutions.
