Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Stranger Things, addressed recent claims of bullying and harassment involving stars Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s premiere, they commented on the situation.
On the red carpet, co-creator Ross Duffer said, standing beside his brother Matt,
“Obviously, you understand I can’t get into personal onset matters, but I will say we’ve been doing this for 10 years with this cast, and at this point they’re family and we deeply care about them. So, you know, nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.”
Shawn Levy, director and executive producer, shared how the production handles bullying complaints to ensure safety and respect on set.
“At the end of the day, that’s the job,” Levy said. “You have to create a respectful workplace where everyone feels comfortable and safe, and so we did everything to build that environment. And we’re proud of the fact that we did so.”
He also mentioned,
“I’ve read a bunch of stories and they range from wildly inaccurate to… there’s so much noise around it.”
The creators and director emphasize their commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment on the Stranger Things set, dismissing much of the circulating criticism as exaggerated or unfounded.
This response highlights the showrunners’ focus on cast wellbeing and the challenges of addressing public allegations amidst conflicting narratives.
