An emergency recall has been announced for three tomato-based pasta sauces after concerns they might contain Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which can cause severe and potentially fatal food poisoning.
The affected items come in 26-ounce jars and were distributed between Connecticut and Massachusetts through Big Y and possibly other retailers starting September 22, 2025. All jars have a use-by date of September 26.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that the sauces were produced without an approved schedule, meaning their manufacturing process was not properly reviewed to prevent the development of harmful bacteria.
No cases of illness have been reported yet, but health authorities emphasize that botulism is highly dangerous. Consumers who purchased any of the affected sauces should immediately return them to the point of sale for a full refund.
The FDA has recalled three tomato sauces from First and Last Bakery due to a potential botulism risk, advising all buyers to stop use and return the products for safety.
