A 52-year-old local man, Shawn J. Sweeney, was charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm on Saturday morning.
According to the Waterloo Police Department, Sweeney fired two shotgun rounds while duck hunting on the canal inside the Village of Waterloo, using a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun.
This incident is a violation of Local Law 171-4 related to firearms and explosives, as the discharge of firearms is prohibited along the canal within the village boundaries.
Sweeney was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Waterloo Court at a later date.
