Medieval Tower Collapse in Rome
A medieval tower near the Roman Forum has partially collapsed during renovation work, severely injuring one worker and trapping another.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Monday during renovations of the Torre dei Conti structure in the heart of Italy's capital.
- Hundreds of tourists witnessed the collapse and subsequent rescue attempt.
- Firefighters used a mobile ladder to reach the trapped worker, but another part of the structure collapsed during the rescue, forcing them to retreat.
- A firefighter spokesman, Luca Cari, confirmed that one worker remained trapped hours after the initial collapse.
The rescued worker is being treated in critical condition, while three other workers were rescued unharmed.
