A 61-year-old drink-driver, Jon Sigurdor Magnusson, has been banned from driving for five years and given a suspended sentence.
Magnusson was found to be more than three and a half times the limit, blowing a reading of 124, after his pick-up truck nearly collided with another vehicle at Finch Road in Douglas.
He appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood and was sentenced to 60 days custody, suspended for two years. Magnusson must also take an extended driving test and complete a drink-driving rehabilitation course at the end of his ban.
On August 24, Magnusson was driving a Volkswagen Amarok pick-up truck down St Barnabas Hill when he nearly collided with a car in Finch Road. A witness reported that Magnusson then got out of the truck, staggering and struggling to walk, before a driver took the keys from his vehicle.
No comment from the driver or the authorities is available.
