Twenty-four Alaska veterans returned home on Saturday following an honor flight trip to Washington D.C.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was filled with welcome signs and the sound of bagpipes on Saturday afternoon.
“When we heard the bagpipes, I went, ‘Wow,’ I can’t believe this,”
“You couldn’t ask for better,”
said Howard Appel, a US Army Veteran.
The trip, put on by the Last Frontier Honor Flight, included visits to various memorials and monuments throughout Washington D.C.
The trip holds special significance, as some veterans may not have the opportunity to make it otherwise.
“The thing that makes it important to me, a couple of friends can’t make it,”
