Lambeth Council has unanimously voted against a proposal to place Cllr Irfan Mohammed on its Investigations Committee, despite him facing serious criminal charges.
Cllr Mohammed, who was elected as a Labour councillor but now sits as an Independent, was arrested in July on charges of sexual assault, exposure, and controlling and coercive behaviour. He denies all charges.
Cllr Mohammed denies all charges.
The council's decision ensures that Cllr Mohammed will not be involved in overseeing complaints and misconduct allegations against councillors while facing his own criminal charges.
