Higher Education Minister to Appoint New NSFAS Chairperson

The former National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) chairperson, Dr. Karen Stander, resigned last Sunday, citing a work environment marked by bullying, racism, and intimidation.

Higher Education Minister Buti Manamela is scheduled to appoint a new chairperson on Monday, November 10, 2025, to ensure stability and continuity during the leadership transition.

"The minister has also accepted the resignation of former chairperson of the NSFAS board, Dr. Karen Stander, and will appoint a new chairperson on Monday 10 November 2025," said Matshepo Seedat, the minister's spokesperson.
