Netflix has announced that actor Xolo Maridueña, best known for his roles in “Cobra Kai” and “Blue Beetle,” will portray Portgas D. Ace in the third season of the live-action series “One Piece.” The casting was revealed through Netflix’s Tudum platform, marking a key development for the adaptation.
“Portgas D. Ace is one of the most beloved characters in the ‘One Piece’ universe,” Netflix stated in its official announcement.
Maridueña’s addition brings new energy to the series as it enters a deeper, emotionally charged arc within Eiichiro Oda’s iconic story. Ace, the older adopted brother of Monkey D. Luffy, is a respected pirate possessing the power of the Flame-Flame Fruit, which gives him control over fire. His introduction signals a shift toward higher emotional stakes and more intense action in the show’s narrative.
Showrunner Matt Owens explained to Variety that bringing Ace into the live-action story had long been part of the creative team’s vision. Maridueña’s casting also reflects Netflix’s ongoing strategy to feature globally recognized, young talent who can connect with diverse audiences.
With Maridueña joining the crew, anticipation for the next chapter of “One Piece” continues to build among fans worldwide.
