Travis Head has been released from Australia’s T20 International squad for the final two matches against India to play for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. The move is aimed at helping him prepare for the upcoming Ashes series.
According to cricket.com.au, selectors have permitted several senior players to manage workloads and sharpen red-ball form ahead of the Ashes, which begins on November 21 in Perth.
Head participated in the first three T20Is of the five-match series before choosing to rejoin domestic cricket. He will represent South Australia against Tasmania starting November 10, partnering with Alex Carey.
“He opted for the latter, joining several senior teammates who are also returning to first-class action this week.”
The collective shift toward red-ball matches signals Australia’s strong focus on Test readiness, with the Ashes now just weeks away.
This will be Head’s first first-class game since the West Indies tour in July, offering a valuable chance to rebuild rhythm following a quiet white-ball stretch.
