The Marvel Cinematic Universe remains a global success, but its recent projects haven’t matched the cultural dominance of earlier years. The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned just over $500 million — respectable, though below Marvel’s usual blockbuster level.
With the next Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film on the way, the attention is now shifting to the highly anticipated crossover, Avengers: Doomsday. The project faced major changes: Jonathan Majors’ departure as the main villain, a new director stepping in, and the inclusion of Fox-era X-Men characters. Adding to the spectacle, Robert Downey Jr. is returning to play Doctor Doom, reportedly for a massive paycheck.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has also hinted that the next two Avengers films could mark the end of the current MCU era, turning Avengers: Doomsday into a symbolic farewell to this version of the universe.
Actor Simu Liu has only raised expectations further by emphasizing that the film won’t just be visually impressive — it will also have emotional depth.
“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them,”
“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”
His comments suggest that despite its massive cast and scope, Avengers: Doomsday aims to connect with audiences on a more heartfelt level.
Simu Liu teases that Avengers: Doomsday will blend spectacle with genuine emotion, heightening expectations for Marvel’s most ambitious crossover yet.
