Nationally ranked cornerback Jay Timmons from Pine-Richland has changed his college commitment for the second time within five months, now choosing to attend Ohio State.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior initially committed to Florida State in June, the alma mater of his father, Lawrence Timmons, a former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker. This decision shifted after Ohio State, currently the top-ranked team, extended a scholarship offer in September.
Recruiting site Rivals ranks Timmons as the 15th-best cornerback prospect nationwide in the senior class.
Timmons is a two-way starter, playing both wide receiver and defensive back, contributing to Pine-Richland’s status as the defending WPIAL champions and the No. 1 seed in this year’s Class 5A playoffs.
Despite playing only six games due to injury, he recorded 31 receptions for 549 yards and nine touchdowns on offense, along with 21 tackles on defense.
Pine-Richland faces Shaler (4-7) this Friday in the WPIAL quarterfinals. Coach Jon LeDonne mentioned the team will miss several starters due to injuries or team conduct issues, without naming specific players.
“The Rams will be without ‘several starters’ because of either injury or team-conduct issues,” said coach Jon LeDonne.
Jay Timmons' commitment shift reflects the dynamic nature of college recruiting, highlighting Ohio State's strong appeal among top prospects.
