Charnwood is located centrally within the triangle formed by Nottingham, Leicester, and Derby. Over one third of its population of more than 155,000 live in the vibrant university town of Loughborough.
Two poignant poppy displays have been set up in Loughborough as the town prepares to honor its fallen heroes on Remembrance Sunday. These displays are situated on trees in Queen’s Park and the Forest Road Greenbelt, each adorned with approximately 6,500 handmade, knitted poppies.
The project was organized by Loughborough in Bloom and the Forest Road Greenbelt Gardeners, with valuable support from volunteer groups and individuals. The trees were decorated in advance of the Remembrance Sunday service held in Queen’s Park on Sunday, 9 November.
“This is a moving tribute to all those who have served our country and lost their lives in action,” said Cllr David Northage, Mayor of Charnwood. “I would like to thank everyone involved with the poppies being knitted and installed onto the trees as they create a real centre piece ahead this year’s Remembrance Sunday service.”
Pat Cook, chair of Loughborough in Bloom, added: “Loughborough in Bloom pays its respects each year to those who have served and lost their lives in the armed forces, and it is fantastic to be able to dress the trees in poppies once again.”
This annual tribute deeply engages the Loughborough community in remembering those who sacrificed their lives in service.
