Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has explained his choice to campaign for mayor while riding in a white Ford Bronco, clarifying that the vehicle holds no connection to the late O.J. Simpson.
On the eve of Election Day in New York City, Cuomo, running as an independent candidate, posted a video on Instagram calling the car his "Good luck truck." This was in response to social media users expressing surprise upon seeing him in the distinctive vehicle.
The New York City mayoral race has drawn national focus, with Cuomo competing as an independent against Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
The white Ford Bronco became infamous in June 1994 when former football star O.J. Simpson led police on a two-hour chase across Southern California in the vehicle, after he was charged with murder. The case involved the deaths of Simpson's ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
Simpson's post-NFL life was overshadowed by the controversial acquittal in the high-profile trial. He passed away in 2024 due to cancer.
"After a brief speech and some handshakes and selfies, Cuomo ignored my questions and got in the white Ford Bronco to be driven to the next stop in Washington Heights."
