Renowned TV chef and author Rick Stein will appear at Waterstones in Morpeth on Thursday, November 13, to sign copies of his latest book, Rick Stein’s Christmas. Caroline Dominey spoke with him about the inspiration behind the book and what Christmas means to him personally.
The idea for the book came from Rick’s wife, Sarah, who has long encouraged him to create a Christmas-themed cookbook. Being Australian, she has a special appreciation for celebrating Christmas in the UK. Rick reflects,
"I think with Christmas you forget it until it comes around again, but as soon as I started thinking about recipes and memories of Christmas it became a no-brainer."
He describes the festive season as a cherished time on this "slightly rainy island" and enjoyed crafting the book as a tribute to it.
Rick highlights traditional Christmas fare as the core of his festive celebrations, favoring dishes like turkey, glazed ham, chutneys, jams, and mulled wines. He also has a strong affection for Christmas music, including carols and the excitement of Christmas No. 1 hits. He shares,
"There is a whole piece in the book about Christmas No 1’s! And I’ve always loved carols and carol services."
His passion for these Christmas traditions connects with many who also find joy in the season’s unique offerings.
Rick Stein’s new book celebrates the warmth of Christmas through cherished recipes and festive traditions, reflecting both personal memories and wider cultural joys.
