ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania shared new details about LeBron James' progress as the Los Angeles Lakers star prepares for a return.
LeBron James, 40, has not yet played this season while recovering from sciatica affecting his right side. He is taking a careful and gradual approach toward his upcoming 23rd NBA season.
Despite the absence of the NBA's all-time leading scorer, the Lakers have managed to perform solidly on the court.
Shams Charania explained in a recent ESPN NBA Today segment what the next phase of James' rehab will involve.
"LeBron James has been working out individually, and I'm told that the next step for him is 5-on-5 live play," Charania said.
LeBron will not join the Lakers for their upcoming five-game road trip starting in Atlanta this weekend. It remains uncertain if he will participate in live games during the road trip, possibly with the G League South Bay team, or if the Lakers will wait until November 16 when the team returns to begin the live play process.
"The timeline of this 5-on-5 play is still in question," Charania added.
LeBron James is gradually progressing in his recovery from sciatica, with 5-on-5 live play as the next milestone before his anticipated return to NBA action.
