Several Miss Universe contestants left a pre-pageant event after the director of Miss Universe Thailand, Nawat Itsaragrisil, publicly insulted Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch.
The conflict occurred on November 3 during a ceremony before the main pageant. A livestream of the event, available on Miss Universe Thailand’s Facebook page, shows Itsaragrisil calling Bosch to stand and questioning her commitment to promoting the organization.
“Mexico, where are you? I heard you [did] not agree to post everything about Thailand, about every article of our own activities. Is it true?”
Bosch acknowledged she misunderstood her promotional obligations, which further angered Itsaragrisil. He accused her of only following instructions from her national director and then insulted her directly.
“If you follow the orders from your national director, you are a dumb head,” said Itsaragrisil.
When Bosch stood up to speak, Itsaragrisil berated her again. Bosch responded firmly.
“I have a voice,” she said, “and I was not being respected as a woman.”
Author’s note: The confrontation exposed deep frustrations behind the scenes, emphasizing the need for respectful dialogue in such international events.
