Police confirmed that after a night of disturbances in Birmingham on November 5, more than 20 people were arrested.
During Bonfire Night and into the early hours, fireworks were set off recklessly and aimed at both police officers and the public. Officers also faced attacks, with groups carrying weapons causing disturbance in the area.
The disturbances occurred around Dale End and Staniforth Street, near the Aston Expressway and the popular fireworks area of Bagot Street, which is known for housing several student flats.
A section 60 order was active, granting officers extended stop-and-search powers throughout the night and early Thursday morning. This led to multiple proactive arrests and the confiscation of weapons and fireworks.
"The order allowed multiple proactive arrests to be made, along with the seizure of weapons and fireworks."
Witnesses described the situation as a "scary place to be" during the disturbances.
The Bonfire Night in Birmingham escalated into dangerous clashes, resulting in 21 arrests and intensified police action to restore order and public safety.
