Several local cities, including Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford, are hosting events to honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces. November 11 also marks the closure of most federal services and federally regulated businesses such as banks and postal services.
An event commemorating Indigenous Veterans’ Day will be held on Friday, November 7, at 11:30 a.m. at the Battlefield House Museum and Park, located at 77 King Street.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,”
stated the City of Hamilton in a news release.
The ceremony at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by light refreshments and snacks featuring Indigenous flavors. The city advises attendees to bring their own chairs as seating is limited.
Hamilton’s traditional garrison parade is scheduled for Sunday, November 9. The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the John Foote V.C. Armory on James Street North and proceed south to Gore Park on King Street East, where a service will commence at 10:45 a.m.
Burlington and Brantford will also hold ceremonies that honor the memory and service of veterans, inviting the public to participate in acts of remembrance.
