First and Last Bakery, located in Connecticut, has recalled three tomato pasta sauces after state regulators found a potential botulism risk due to improper processing. The affected 26-ounce jars were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts between September 22 and October 28, 2025.
The recall notice states the sauces "were manufactured without an approved scheduled process or otherwise evaluated to determine if the process is adequate." Due to this, the risk of botulism contamination cannot be ruled out.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported the company has halted sales and production to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. So far, no illness has been reported related to these products.
Improperly processed acidified or low-acid canned foods can allow the formation of Clostridium botulinum toxin. Botulism, though rare, attacks the nervous system and can be fatal in 5–10 percent of cases.
Consumers are urged to check their pantries for these sauces and return any affected jars for a refund or disposal to prevent health risks.
