The Miss Universe Organization announced that Thailand’s pageant director, Nawat Itsaragrisil, will face restrictions on his participation in upcoming Miss Universe events after a heated confrontation with Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch.
The altercation took place during a pre-pageant event in Thailand attended by contestants from around the world. A video of the exchange quickly went viral online.
“Promote the host country... be careful, you are in Thailand, you are in a game,”
Itsaragrisil told the contestants during his speech, urging them to support the event’s location.
Tension grew when Itsaragrisil accused Bosch of neglecting to post promotional content about Thailand, allegedly following her national director’s orders. When Bosch defended herself, he cut her off and raised his voice.
“If you follow the orders from your national director, you are dumb,”
he said, prompting visible discomfort among the contestants. Bosch stood her ground, asserting her right to speak.
“Because I have a voice,”
she responded. Itsaragrisil called security, which triggered outrage from several contestants who stood up in her support.
As Bosch left the room, she called for mutual respect from event officials.
“As women, you need to show respect for us.”
The Miss Universe Organization later confirmed that Itsaragrisil’s role in future events would be restricted following internal review.
