Election Day in New York: What's Open and Closed
Election Day is a state holiday in New York, resulting in the closure of state and local government buildings.
Although state and local government offices are closed, the Long Island Rail Road and mass transit will operate on a normal schedule.
Election Day as a State Holiday
While not a federal holiday, the first Tuesday in November is recognized as a state holiday in New York.
The Time Off to Vote Notice, or New York State Election Law Section 3-110, states that an employee may take off up to two hours without loss of pay to vote if they do not have time to attend the polls between the beginning and end of their shift.
Closures and Openings
Most government buildings, including courts, will be closed on Tuesday for the holiday.
