Historic Home of Famous Polar Explorer on Market

The family home of Captain Francis Crozier, a renowned Northern Ireland-born polar explorer, is now for sale.

Captain Crozier was born in Banbridge, Co Down, in 1796. He initially volunteered with the Royal Navy and went on to serve in it.

A monument was erected in Banbridge in 1862, 14 years after his disappearance on an expedition to find the North-West Passage. The monument is visible from the windows of the family home, which also features a blue plaque celebrating his legacy.

The monument is one of eight points across the world acknowledging Francis Crozier’s contribution towards exploration and science.

The town of Banbridge still celebrates Captain Crozier's life and legacy.
