Deepfakes: A Growing Concern

When hearing the term "deepfake," one might think of comically edited videos or poorly generated content. However, deepfakes can also be used to create explicit or misleading material.

Deepfakes are images and videos edited or generated using artificial intelligence, with varying content depending on user input. Over time, the quality of deepfakes has improved significantly.

For instance, a 2023 example of prompting Will Smith to eat a meatball resulted in a poorly made video, but now such videos can be made with ease and accuracy, making it harder to distinguish reality from fiction.

These videos are getting freakishly accurate, making it harder for audiences to tell what’s real and what’s not.

Author's summary: Deepfakes pose a growing concern due to their increasing accuracy.
