Thousands of international students in Hungary may face tightened scholarship contracts following a scandal at ELTE University.
A recent incident involved historian Alexander Yakobson from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who was silenced during a lecture on October 16. Security forces failed to restore order, and the lecture was suspended.
“Diverzitás és demokrácia az izraeli társadalomban”
The lecture series is still available on ELTE's website, but only two of the three sessions were attended online due to the disruption. The issue began when some students wore keffiyehs and shouted that the lecture was political propaganda supporting Israeli genocide.
Neither the lecturer, attendees, nor the university's security could calm the disturbance, leading to the lecture being halted. Two ministers and the university rector have demanded accountability.
