The Iqaluit Elders Society suggests that providing elder care in every Nunavut community is more efficient than centralized facilities.
According to the organization, funding elder care in each community would cost taxpayers the same or less than building long-term care homes.
Keeping Elders in their community also results in better health outcomes
Anne Crawford, a lawyer working with the organization, emphasized that the Iqaluit Elders Society advocates for future projects to address at-home and in-community care, without dismantling already planned Elders' facilities.
The organization is pressing to have this issue addressed through the territorial election.
