Rescue centres 'full' of animals given up because of landlord bans on pets

Rescue Centres Overwhelmed with Animals Given Up Due to Landlord Pet Bans

Rescue centres in Ireland are facing a crisis as they are "full" of animals that have been surrendered by their owners due to landlord bans on pets.

According to Martina Kenny, founder of My Lovely Horse rescue centre, the housing crisis has led to a severe shortage of rental accommodation, forcing people to move into homes where pets are not allowed.

"It's terrible, it's really terrible... A pet can be a really huge part of your family; it can help mental health, the children can be in bits without it."

This issue is not limited to one area, but is a problem "all around Ireland", Kenny stated on Newstalk Breakfast.

Some properties, including those under the jurisdiction of Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs), have pet bans in place, leading to a surge in animal surrenders.
