The Gideon Bulldogs rallied from an early deficit to defeat Bernie 3-1, clinching their first district volleyball title since 2021 and earning a spot in the state tournament.
This was the third meeting between the Gideon Bulldogs and the Bernie Mules this season, with the previous two matches resulting in a sweep by Gideon and a five-set win by Bernie, respectively.
In the decisive match, Gideon overcame a first-set loss of 25-12 to win 3-1. Head coach Kristen Ashabranner described the team's struggles in the first set, saying:
We couldn’t put anything together. We called two timeouts before they even got to eight points.
The win marked a significant achievement for the team, securing their first district championship since 2021.
