Airports Prepare for Holiday Travel Amid Government Shutdown

Airports are gearing up for the holiday season amidst the ongoing government shutdown, with uncertainty surrounding its duration.

According to Lauren Gonzales, Santa Barbara Airport Marketing Supervisor, larger airports are more likely to feel the impacts of the shutdown. For instance, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) experienced temporary groundings of flights from Oakland to LA on Sunday due to staffing shortages.

"We really haven't seen much impact on operations at SBA luckily but we are keeping in close contact with our Federal partners to be in touch on any changes that they see on their end,"

said Gonzales. However, a government worker, who wished to remain anonymous, reported being delayed by issues at other airports while traveling out of town.

While Santa Barbara Airport has not been significantly affected, airport officials remain vigilant and in close communication with federal partners to address any potential changes.
