The State of Alaska has started distributing disaster relief payments to residents of Western Alaska affected by storm damage from ex-Typhoon Halong, totaling over $217,000 as of Friday.
According to the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the state has received more than 940 applications for state individual assistance. Applications are open on the state's website until November 9.
To assist storm evacuees who lost identification or essential documents, the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Health have set up booths at emergency evacuation shelters in Anchorage to provide replacements. The Association of Village Council Presidents is also offering tribal IDs in the shelters.
