Recently, I visited Albany, New York, for a brief trip over the weekend. I had never been to the capital city of the Empire State, so I wandered without a plan to explore the city.
I walked along State Street, Albany's original "Main Street" and one of the two oldest streets in the city. At the end of State Street, I found myself in the Empire State Plaza, where multiple government buildings are located.
One of the notable buildings in the Empire State Plaza is the New York State Capitol, where the state legislature gathers. The massive structure was completed in 1899 at a cost of $25 million, approximately $794 million in today's currency.
The project began in 1867, with three architectural teams working on the design and construction of the building over its 32-year construction period.
