Canada Cancels Ukraine Military Contract
Pressure is growing for the Canadian government to explain the cancellation of a military contract with Ukraine.
The contract, which was for the refurbishment of 25 light armoured vehicles, was cancelled by the federal government, but the reason behind the decision has not been disclosed.
Defence Minister David McGuinty told the House of Commons defence committee that his department had cancelled the contract, but said he couldn’t explain the reason behind the decision.
Conservatives argue that the cancellation of the contract risks making Canada appear as an unreliable ally to Ukraine and undermines commitments to bolstering the domestic defence industry.
The Canadian company involved, Armatec Survivability, says it is still "ready, willing and able to supply" the vehicles.
