Deutsche Telekom goes for device recycling gold

Deutsche Telekom's Device Recycling Initiative

Deutsche Telekom is promoting a domestic device recycling program, running until November, with an unusual prize to encourage participation.

The company is offering gold in exchange for old mobile phones, with a top prize of 1kg of gold, as well as tickets to football matches and vouchers for the German Football Association's merchandise store.

Deutsche Telekom aims to recycle a significant portion of the estimated 195 million disused mobile phones in its home market, building on previous schemes that resulted in over 11 million phones being returned by the end of 2024.

The initiative also includes the recycling of other devices such as modems, routers, repeaters, and TV receivers.

Deutsche Telekom's goal is to encourage device recycling and reduce electronic waste.
