Coffee's delicious journey from tiny bean to tasty brew

Coffee's Delicious Journey

Coffee is a significant part of our daily routine, with the number of American adults enjoying a daily cup increasing by 37 percent since 2004, according to the National Coffee Association.

The history of coffee dates back to 850 CE, when coffee beans were first cultivated in the Arabian colony of Harar near present-day Ethiopia.

“From there, coffee was transported to Mecca and spread throughout the Arabian continent,”

says Bryan Quoc Le, food scientist and CEO at Mendocino Food Consulting. He notes that it wasn't until the 1600s that Venetian merchants recorded seeing a blackish beverage resembling modern coffee and brought coffee beans to Europe.

Author's summary: Coffee's history spans over 1,000 years.
