I was pleased to speak at the launch of the latest edition of Desmond Greaves’ book, ‘Liam Mellows and the Irish Revolution’.
Dr Ruan O’Donnell, a Senior Lecturer in History, updated the book. Anthony and Muriel Coughlan were also present. Anthony, Desmond Greaves’ literary executor, deserves gratitude for his work on Desmond’s writings.
I first read this book in Cage 11 of Long Kesh, where we formed a book club and contacted Joe Clarke, who ran the Irish Book Bureau in Dublin. Joe Clarke was a survivor of the Mount Street ambush in April 1916.
In this ambush, 13 IRA volunteers held 2,000 British soldiers at bay, wounding 250 and killing 28 British soldiers. Four IRA Volunteers were killed.
