Tackling Food Waste

The story of food waste doesn’t end in the trash can – it’s a starting point for climate change, economic challenges and the empty plates of hundreds of millions.

According to the Food Waste Index Report 2024, recent years have seen 19 per cent of food available to consumers wasted, which in turn is responsible for five times the total emissions from the aviation sector – and this comes while a third of humanity faces food insecurity.

However, as much as food loss and waste is a systemic issue of global scale, it’s also an area where individuals, families and communities can readily take action – and in creative ways that celebrate culture and tradition.
