Replica of Christopher Columbus' Ship Sinks Off Mexican Coast

A replica of Christopher Columbus' galleon, Marigalante, has sunk off the coast of Mexico after 30 years of serving as a tourist attraction.

The incident occurred near the Buenaventura Hotel in Jalisco, Mexico, as the crew attempted to return to port for technical repairs. According to local media, a critical failure in the bilge pumps caused the ship to take on water, leading to severe flooding.

Despite efforts to slow the flooding, the ship eventually succumbed to structural damage and the weight of the water, causing it to tilt and lose balance before sinking.

The ship gradually flooded from the inside, with water levels reaching 1.5 meters inside the lower deck.

The sinking of Marigalante marks the end of an era for this historic replica.
