Unions Sue to Stop AI Surveillance Powering Trump’s Deportation Scheme
Three major labor unions sued the federal government to stop a social media surveillance program designed to revoke visas and green cards of immigrants with "hostile attitudes" about the government.
The program has suppressed free speech of union members, including graduate students targeted for pro-Palestine views.
The First Amendment applies to everyone who lives in the U.S.
The lawsuit, filed by three civil liberties groups, challenges the AI-powered "catch and revoke" program.
According to Lisa Femia, a lawyer with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, this is the first lawsuit to take on the surveillance program itself.
