Assembly Briefs: New Fire Chief and Other Updates
The Haines borough assembly approved the hire of Zac Overmyer as the borough's first full-time professional Fire Chief on Tuesday.
Overmyer has 11 years of firefighting experience at the Chugiak Fire Department and comes with positive reviews, according to borough manager Alekka Fullerton.
References in Chugiak described Overmyer's departure as a "huge loss" for their department.
Overmyer also has experience in private security and EMS services, having worked for Denali Universal Services and NANA management services.
The borough's interview committee, consisting of Julie Anderson, Cynthia Jones, Matt Boron, Mike Denker, Jimmy Yoakum, and Alekka Fullerton, were impressed by Overmyer's qualifications.
